Once upon a time...

Loria has lived in the tower for as long as she can remember. She has had nothing but her surly guardian and a mysterious voice in her mind to keep her company for years. Now, the presence in her mind is coming for her. Is he her rescuer or her ruin?

Book Review: I would have liked this to have been longer. I liked how this sweet short played out. A trapped princess and an unconventional prince. I thought this to be a cute tale with a bit of spice. It had potential for both world and character building. The plot was strong, but just to darn short.

Sunday Post #3

I'm signing up with the Caffeinated Reviewer for Sunday Post and The Book Date for It's Monday What are you Reading.

Life: Same old same old.

Writing: I went into my old writing file and discovered that some of the files were so old they can't even be read any more. I cleaned it out and pulled the stories I want to continue working on. Edited some and generally wasted time going over them.

Reading: Well I finally officially DNF Lady and the Orc. Just couldn't do it. I finished what's out for the Mystic Bayou series and then circled back to re-listen to Even Tree Nymphs Get the Blue. I read this a while back and feel like I either missed of forgot a lot of the story.

Hope you all have a great week!

“Never enter the woods, little one. For you were born under the wolf moon and to the wolf you belong.” Jenna had never heard anything but warnings about the wolf who haunted their village. He was a dark presence that lurked in the woods, always waiting to snatch her away. No one had ever made it through the forest. So, who was the stranger in the village? Why does he seem so interested in her? And why is she so drawn to him?

Book Review: Pretty oblivious but still ok. I wasn't as taken by this as some of the authors other works. Probably because she was taken by a wolf shifter while in wolf which I wasn't crazy about. If that's your bag then hey whatever, more power to you, but it was not for me.

Once upon a time, there was a secret palace and a magical garden...

Scarlett does not believe in fairy stories. She does not believe in magic, and she especially does not believe silly rumors. She only wants to help her family's struggling flower shop. But when a late frost threatens to destroy the family business, Scarlett has to consider even the most unlikely solutions. Rumors say there is a hidden garden in the forest. Anyone who can climb the garden wall can take as many flowers as they can carry. The catch? No one climbs the wall and lives.

The garden is a dark and deadly thing. For one specific person, it will bring a life of pleasure and beauty, but it comes at a price. The garden demands a sacrifice. Its hunger must be satisfied. Is Scarlett willing to make that deal? Or will she find the garden to be a far greater prize than the flowers she came for?

Book Review: This was an interesting take on the magical garden type tale. Scarlett is desperate to help her family. She follows an old tale to a magical garden. I never thought of vines doing the things they did in this book or how sensual petals could be. But wow oh wow, this short was something else. I enjoyed it very much, which probably says something about me, yet this was a hot read.

Sunday Post #2: Should I or Shouldn't I

I'm signing up with the Caffeinated Reviewer for Sunday Post and The Book Date for It's Monday What are you Reading.

I'm having a little trouble coming up with stuff to talk about life wise in these posts because my life is pretty boring. I get up get the kids off to school, go to work, come home and do it all again the next day. I am considering doing something and I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. I'm thinking about getting back into writing. Just as a way to get things out of my head. Probably self publish on somewhere like Smashwords, since it won't be up to Amazon standards. I can't afford to have it properly edited and I'll be doing the covers myself, but just a little hobby to get all of the stuff in my head out so I can think. Ok I know that sounds weird but you'd understand if you are or were a writer.

Thoughts? Advice?

Ok on to the bookish stuff. I've been binge listening to Molly Harper's Mystic Bayou Series as it's part of my Audible subscription and I'm only going to have it for a few more weeks. I got 3 months for $5.95 a month but I can't afford full price so I'll be back to being an Audible peasant. It ok though as long as I can keep up with Kindle Unlimited I will be fine. That subscription had paid for it's self in spades.

I'm unsure if I will be able to finish The Lady and The Orc. The female MC is getting on my nerves she's waffling back and forth. Listen lady shit or get off the pot (as my mother would say). Either you like the massive orc cock or you don't. And the whole my husband will save me, uh your husband was a twatwaffle and is probably happy that your gone, at least that the impression. Anyway you can see that if I do finish it and post the review the book has to do a pretty impressive one eighty to get my appreciation. Of course I've also reached an age where if I don't like something I'm going to DNF it and move on cause I ain't got time to waste on things, that in the immortals words of Shania Twain, "Don't impress me much."

Well I guess I should just stick to the book talk as I seem to be able to find a lot to say about those.

Not Quite a Bookish Post

Since I was little I've had a great imagination, I was basically an only child. I'm not really I have a younger half sister but she's this hazy figure in my memories. We were never close and have drawn even further away as adults. It's a long story and please don't feel bad for me. We also moved a lot, my parents were migrant farms and my step dad an acholic so... I had a crap childhood and lets just leave it at that. In order to get through that crap childhood and into the damaged responsible adult I am today I used my imagination a lot. It became an escape, that and books, I mean where do you think I got the ideas. In my teens to help me sleep I would, ok embarrassing confession, basically create fan fiction of my favorite books in my head. I started writing my own stuff around this time playing out scenarios for my characters.

I spent a good deal of 8th grade Earth Science writing what would become my first published work. It makes me cringe reading it now although I still have the tattered notebook first copy. I look back and wonder if I hadn't been so hell bent on becoming an author would I have taken some of the other routes in life I considered. I thought about becoming a nurse, a psychiatrist. My romantic teenage dream was to convert a Volkswagen microbus into a camper and just drive around hippie style working on farms and writing. Then I met my husband and it never happened. But I'm ok with that. Despite the misgivings that creep into my brain once and awhile say "what if..." I'm happy, most of the time, and content.

Yet I wonder what if I had chosen another career path. I worked so hard to reach my goal and I have an impressive list of "I used to's" under my belt but I'm finding myself kinda lost right now, not sure of my identity.

I'm a wife, mother... but who am I?

I used to be an author...
I used to write a sex advice column
I used to review naughty books and sex toys
I used to write naughty books
I used to have a thriving review site that I built from the ground up
I used to create book covers and ad work
I used to do promos for books and ok sex toys

I loved doing all of it, but it didn't pay the bills. You have to remember this was the early 2000's ebooks were just becoming a thing, (this was before Kindle) most reviews are you get the item in leu of payment for the review, small publisher don't pay you Stephen King or Nora Roberts salaries, the ad work and promo wasn't quite enough. So when the hubby lost his job, I went back to work. I couldn't keep up, I chose my family over my what at that time amounted to a hobbies. I still kept reviewing on and off as time aloud but it wasn't where I was at my peak. I kept my toes in the writing but just as a hobby posting on random places or tucking it away on a flash drive. But as the kids got older and learned to read this became less. I tried writing things other than smut and my heart just wasn't in it.

I guess that's why I created this blog, maybe to recapture a bit of my glory days. Maybe this is my mid-life crisis, I mean I do turn 40 this year. But then again 40 is the new 20, we just get better with age right ladies?  I really don't know what it is, but my brain is full of all these ideas and it's distracting. I haven't felt this way in a long time and the need to write is pulling in a way it hasn't in a very long time. So I guess the only thing to do is find the flash drive and start writing before it drives me mad. OK madder than I already am.

Book Tour: Rogue Black Dagger MC Book 1 by M.D. Stewart

Rogue
Black Dagger MC Book 1
by M.D. Stewart
Genre: Contemporary MC Romance

With a corrupt cop and an escaped killer hunting them, can Rogue do the impossible and save Stevie?
Stevie Anderson barely eluded death when deranged serial killer, Paul Turner, murdered her entire family before setting their house on fire. While in protective custody, she’s hidden where the killer would least suspect — the home of a biker in the Black Dagger Motorcycle Club.
Mac “Rogue” Steele resisted his twin’s suggestion to hide a federal protection witness in his home; until he gets to know the shy but charming woman. With a bruised heart, scarred body, and beautiful soul, it doesn’t take long for Stevie to claim his cynical heart.
After her family’s killer contacts Stevie from his prison cell, Rogue takes her on the run through the hills and hollows of southern West Virginia. Relying on the help of his MC, Rogue desperately searches for a way to keep Stevie alive.

I was born and raised in southern West Virginia. At eighteen, I married a man I met in college and even though we went our separate ways, he gave me two wonderful children. I've always loved reading and I'd write poems and short stories for as long as I could hold a crayon, pen or pencil. Once I realized I could self-publish I got excited and started writing down the stories of my characters that live in my head. When I'm not writing my husband and I can the vegetables we grow in our garden, take care of our pet chickens or play with our two cats.

Book Review: Love and Other Wild Things (Mystic Bayou #2) by Molly Harper

Love and Other Wild Things (Mystic Bayou #2)
by Molly Harper
Published March 19th 2019 by NYLA
Purchased via Kindle
Heat Level: Smoking
Taboo: Bear Shifter
Rating: 5

This hot, hilarious stand-alone will keep you wildly entertained! Welcome to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where shape-shifters, vampires, witches, and dragons live alongside humans. The town formed around the mysterious energy rift in the bayou, which helps keep the town's magic in balance. But lately the rift has been widening and destabilizing - threatening to send the town's magical population into chaos. Energy witch Danica Teel has been sent by the League to figure out what's going on, with the help of bear-shifter Mayor Zed. While working on the case, Zed falls head over paws for Dani, but she's reluctant to engage in anything beyond a roll in his cave. Dani's family is counting on her to get the job done, and she has no time for distractions. But when an ominous presence begins stalking Dani through the bayou, they'll need to band together to make it out alive.

Review: Dani is an energy witch, hired by the League to study the rift. Zed is a werebear mayor of Mystic Bayou. He is a loveable teddy bear, who tends to be comic relief until he meets Dani and connects with her.
He's thinking long term she doesn't know how ling she'll be in town. Hijinks ensue. Add in a little mystery and someone out to sabotage Dani's work or get her out if the way permanently. I through ally enjoyed this book. I loved Zed in book one and was super happy to see him find his mate. Dani is perfect for him, she speaks her mind and has a thing for llamas which I found amusing.
While I thought the plot was a bit formulaic. As in they find each other, something drives them apart, girl ends up in trouble. Zed saves the day and HEA. I still enjoyed the story and it was a nice escape. Just what I expect form Ms. Harper.

Book Review: The Cave by Adrian Blue

The Cave
by Adrian Blue
Published July 25th 2019
Read via Kindle Unlimited
Heat Level: Sizzling
Taboo: Fairy / Multiple Partners at same time
Rating: 4

Her grandmother always called them the Fair Folk. Her mother muttered about fairies. Kate was not sure what her father’s opinion had been, he had become a victim of the forest that surrounded their village soon after she was born, but most of the other villagers had a fearful respect for the beings who called the forest home.

Review: This was a sweet sexy short. I was kinda expecting something a bit different, but the basic outcome was the same. Kate is chosen by the fairies that guard the forest near her home to be their mate. She is given gifts and woo'd(?), in the end she gives in and goes to the cave which is known to be their home/ the gate to their world. Then sexy times happen. It was a quick read, descent escapism and if your looking for something to get you in the mood.

The first book in Molly Harper's uproariously funny, sinfully sexy new Mystic Bayou series!

Anthropologist Jillian Ramsay's career has taken a turn south. Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations. Mermaids and gator shifters swim in the bayou. Spirit bottles light the front porches after twilight. Dragons light the fires under crayfish pots. Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be...

Review:

I'm a huge Molly Harper fan, I enjoy her writing style and wit. This book did not disappoint.

Jillian Ramsay is an Anthropologist with the League for Interspecies Cooperation, she's sent to Mystic Bayou a little town in Louisiana. Her mission is to figure out how so many magical creatures live together with the local humans in relative peace. Yet things are not always what they seem. When she arrives she greeted by the town's boisterous town mayor Zed who is a bear shifter and the gruff sheriff Bael, whos a mystery to her. The book is told from Jillian and Bael's points of view. This is one of those I'm attracted to you but you're an ass book. Bael is a dragon shifter and is naturally wary of outsiders, yet can't get Jillian out of his head. The longer she's in Mystic Bayou the more Bael wants to keep her. Of course, misunderstanding happens, toss in a serial killer and a magical rift that turns normal folk into magical folk, just to spice things up.

This was what I'd come to expect from Ms Harper, a fun romantic tale with a bit of mystery tossed in. The romance was sound, but the mystery a bit wishy-washy for me. Let's face it this is a paranormal romance first, the mystery was secondary to Jillian and Bael's relationship. Still, it added a little extra to the book and pushed the plot along so why not.

As an introduction to this series and town, I loved it and can't wait to read more.

Lockmorrow Estate was situated at the northernmost tip of England in a stormy, desolate region where nothing but rangy sheep would grow. The manor itself, said to be under a curse of unknown origin, was made of the same dark, gray limestone that jutted up from the surrounding fields like tombstones. No one else would willingly take a job there, no one else would dare, but Rosalie did not have the virtue of choice. She was desperate.

The moment Rosalie steps inside the house, she knows the rumors are correct. There is something very wrong with Lockmorrow Estate. Something is lurking in the shadows. And whatever it is, it wants her.

Review: Plot holes a plenty but still a sweet story and smexy as hell.

I feel like this was really good up until the author tried to make sense of things. I felt like that part was a bit of an afterthought. Like how do I explain why she was the one… random contrived plot point no one saw coming. It couldn’t have been horny ghost looking for just the right governess to get his rocks off with. No, it has to be this exact chick and then somehow, he had to know that she would be looking for a governess job and etc. It was just too much. I loved the ghost story angle and the hot ghostly action but that tiny plot point just made me cringe. I mean I didn’t need the love story just a horny ghost in need of lovin’ and the governess who is willing. That would have made a lot more sense. Especially with the shortness of the book.

Claimed by the Goblin King

Taboo: Goblin Sex
Rating: 4

Nerina's psychic abilities have brought her nothing but a life of servitude at the hands of the Western King. She has almost resigned herself to endless days under his tyrannical rule when she senses change on the horizon. There is a force coming, someone strong enough to challenge the cruel king and change the path of her destiny. But what will that new path be and how close will their fates be intertwined? What does it mean to be claimed by the Goblin King?

The Goblin King fell forward onto his hands and slowly lowered himself to inhale against her throat. A deep purr vibrated in his chest, as he placed a long, slow lick from her collarbone to beneath her ear. Nerina inhaled shakily, closing her eyes and tipping her head back to give him more room. He nuzzled her jaw before his lips brushed hers.

Review: Loved this only gripe is that it was too short, yet I also don’t think it would have been better long. So, it is what it is. I enjoyed the characters. The plot moved along well and there was a bit a sexual tension build up that was nice. It made the hot ending so much better. I really liked the err, twist at the end. If you’re looking for a sweet, sexy short to get your motor going this is definitely a book you should check out. Warning it could be a bit kinky for the more vanilla crowd.

Reagan's village has been tormented by a demon bear for centuries. The animal form of a powerful sorcerer, the bear has brutally killed any who tried to defeat him. Every sacrifice the village has given to appease the bear has ended in bloody failure. Now, it is Reagan's turn. Will she meet the same horrible fate as all the others? Or will the monster want something far different from her?

Review: So I wasn’t really prepared for this short. I expected the wizard to turn back into a man at the end, but that didn’t happen. Which means it gets a little weird toward the end, yes that’s a spoiler, but you should know what your getting into. I didn’t and boy oh boy was I surprised. It was a nice story, but the end… I mean if your into that sort of thing then more power to you. The down side is this is a short story, it what I call a wham-bam thank you ma’am. It leaves you wanting more. There are so many questions left unanswered like why is the wizard terrorizing the village, why a bear, why Reagan?  This would have been a great first chapter or few chapters but as a whole story I was left wanting to know more about the plot.
